These plastic helmet badges for the post 1948 cork helmets are few & far between as not many fire brigades had these for use on fire helmets of the period. A few brigades adopted them on earlier pattern helmets such as Hertfordshire, Nottinghamshire & a few others, the majority of brigades wearing paper style transfers which were applied generally by floating in water for a few minutes & allowing the transfer to float off the paper backing & dabbed neatly to the front of the helmet!

Even paper based transfers of this period are harder to obtain as they deteriorate with age. This Nottinghamshire helmet badge bears the coat of arms of Nottinghamshire set within the red ring, as the cap badge of the period. These plastic badges can be restored with careful use of fine brush & the correct colours of paint, however we do not try to restore badges that we obtain & although worn, the badge itself is in good condition for its age with one small chip to one arm of the longer points of the star top right!
