An original ww1 ( world war 1 ) airfield opened by the Royal Flying Corp in 1916, it's fame being awarded during the 2nd world war ( 1939 to 1945 ) where it's fighter based squadrons covered the South East coast & London during world war 2. At a cost of 453 pilot's the Spitfire & Hurricane fighter squadron's based there destroyed over 1,400 enemy aircraft & was a target of 12 German bombing missions ! The R.A.F ( Royal Air Force ) ceased to exist at Biggin Hill in 1994 & the airport was handed over to the local Bromley (Kent ) council for civilian use.
This cap badge from The Biggin Hill Airport Fire Service is in excellent condition. Manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham it has the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue lined Home Office star, the 2 cap fixing lugs intact to the rear.
