Hampshire Fire Service was formed in 1948 after the 1947 Fire Services Act returned fire control from the National Fire Service ( N.F.S ) to regional county & county borough brigades.

This Hampshire Fire Service cap badge does have a chip to the enamel, the centre secured to the standard economy issue lined home office star via a thin brass pin, the 2 cap fixing lugs intact to the rearshowing brass, an indication of an early pressing cap badge.
A trick to restore damaged enamel is to apply an appropriate colour women's nail varnish to the small chipped area.
