Air India International was formed in 1953 after the Indian Government nationalised their air industry. Originally formed in 1932 by J.R.D Tata as Tata Airlines carrying mail & passengers & in 2021 was reaquired by  private company TheTata Group. 
This vintage lapel badge is one of several variations that exist where Maharaja Salam is wearing the red turban. There are gilt & blue variations also, the lapel badge is in good condition with brooch clip assembley intact to the rear of the gilt enamel badge. The badge is 3/4 of an inch tall .
