A very nice condition Australian Melbourne Fire Brigade brass fireman's helmet manufactured by Rider & Bell Company. A modern replacement liner is inside but made professionally as an original draw string liner is, the helmet shell & cone are extremely good condition & the helmet is dated around late 1940's & 1950's with the replacement liner added sometime later.
Rider & Bell obtained the original Merryweather patterns from Merrtyweather & Sons in the early 1930's & continued producing brass fireman's helmets for use into the 1960's, supplying Melbourne Fire Brigade, New South Wales Fire Brigade & South Australia Fire Brigade with brass fireman's helmets.
Indian copy helmets started flooding the market in the early 2000's & now collectors are fed up with them. Obtaining original brass fireman's helmets is more difficult today & what these Indian copies have in fact done is push the prices of original brass helmets up through "the roof" where collectors are now looking for an original piece.
