The Australian Protective Service was established in 1984 with the transfer of 420 constables from The Australian Federal Police. Their duties were the protection of Australian interests both in Australia & abroad, mainly protecting personnel & property belonging to the Australian government. Later duties included counter terrorism 1st response & bomb appraisal after increased terrorist activities around the globe, also providing protection for airports & also providing air marshalls for certain flights. They were also charged with detention duties for immigration. In 2004 the organization was disbanded & personel were transfered back into The Australian Federal Police but their duties remained the same. The badge is in excellent condition.
