Berkshire & Reading Fire Brigade was formed in 1948 after the N.F.S ( National Fire Service 1941 to 1947 ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades.
Set up to cover an area of 740 square miles with 21 fire stations & 2 fire parties available on demand with a hose truck & light pump. There are 2 variations of official cap badges issued & a rare factory sample badge using the title Berkshire & Reading Fire Service. The badge has been within a full collection bought many years ago by a badge dealer who manufactured the reproduction badges, & then sold off. So the badge exists & is one of only 2 or 3 that exist in the world. This cap badge manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham is in excellent condition, the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue, lined Home Office star, both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the badge.
