Birmingham Fire & Ambulance Service was formed after world war 2  (1939 to 1945 ) in 1948 when the NFS ( National Fire Service 1941 to 1947 ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. Birmingham, a large brigade on the outskirts of Warwickshire had 19 fire stations covering 80 square miles of area & had variations of the badge manufactured during its existence with thick & thin rim variations & an error variation where the bottom left quartet section of the shield had the red & yellow colours around the wrong way !

This original Birmingham Fire & Ambulance Service Cap Badge issued from 1948 to 1974 is the thin rim variation in excellent condition. The enamel centre fixed to the standard fully pressed issue Home Office star, both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the badge. The enamel patina is perfect on the badge.
