Birmingham Fire & Ambulance Service was formed after world war 2 (1939 to 1945 ) in 1948 when the NFS ( National Fire Service 1941 to 1947 ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. Birmingham, a large brigade on the outskirts of Warwickshire had 19 fire stations covering 80 square miles of area & had variations of the badge manufactured during its existence with thick & thin rim variations & an error variation where the bottom left quartet section of the shield had the red & yellow colours around the wrong way !
This cap badge is the thin rim variation & has the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue lined Home Office star, both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the badge. There is a small chip to the surface enamel on the centre
