When brass helmets were fazed out gradually because of safety issues with electrocution, the new unseen danger to firemen, alternative forms of protective head gear were experimented to afford protection to firefighters. 
Helmets Limited who were founded on 24th October 1924 were asked amongst other headgear manufacturers to come up with samples to be trialled. The very 1st Helmets Ltd cork fire helmets were painted cherry red & sent out to various brigades to trial them. 
London Fire Brigade took 100 helmets which were serial numbered 1170 inside the "dogsteeth" nicknamed sewn on head inner leather liner, they also were fitted with brass rosettes to attach the leather chin strap.  They were issued in 1934 to 1936 when the new official badged London County Council London Fire Brigade took delivery of their 1st cork pattern helmets & replaced the brass helmets. Painted black & with gold prominent features, these helmets are also rare because they were used for only 3 years until 1939 when metal Brodie military combat helmets were issued & London Fire Brigade became London Auxiliary Fire Service !
This rare 1st pattern 1934 issued Helmets Limited cherry red cork fire helmet is in overall great original condition. The "dogsteeth" liner is missing & you can see parts of stitching where the complete original liner was held. The inner green canvas is flaking but not so badly, most is intact. It could be one of the original 100 London issued helmets but no liner & lack of even marks where brass rosettes holding the chinstrap may have been. 
I own an original rare LFB cherry red helmet with liner & serial number & paid a lot of money to own such a rare helmet to London Fire Brigade. I have that to compare this to & it is exactly the same minus mentioned missing parts.
