An opportunity to own one of the rarer post 1974 era fire brigade cap badges in this gilt 2mm thin rim Buckinghamshire Fire Brigade 1983 issued cap badge manufactured by Gaunt Badge Company of London, one of the official cap badge suppliers to the fire brigade. The badge is in good condition with both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the standard fully pressed issue Gaunt Home Office star, the enamel gilt centre attached to the star.
ONLY 250 of these badges exist in gilt both thick & thin rim mixed, the normal worn badge being chrome enamel & in 2 sizes of rim being 3mm or 2mm.
The reason why many fire brigade cap badges have varied thickness of rim sizes...its simple....because the factory producing them were dependant on the amount of metal available at the time of pressing. When plenty in supply they are more "generous" and the opposite applies to very thin rimmed badges. Also costs involved play a part & especially today in our financially cash strapped metal industries !
