Cumbria Fire Service formed in 1974 as a new County fire service with 38 fire stations covering 2,629 square miles of the Cumbrian county. There are variations of the issued cap badge & at least 3 known manufacturers being Gaunt & Sons of London, Firmin Badge Company of London & Marples & Beasley Badge Company of Birmingham. This always leads to some noteable variations & Cumbria has a few with enamel or fully chromed stars & both small & large shield variations exist ! The brigade changed to Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service in 2004 & a new one piece larger cap badge has been produced in limited numbers, general issue to uniformed staff only for ceremonial duties & handed back to stores.
This variation is in excellent condition, the large shield with enamel stars variation manufactured by Firmin Badge Company of London. The enamel centre fixed to the fully pressed Firmin Home Office star, both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the badge.
