The Fire Service Staff College situated at Wolton House in Dorking, Surrey was set up after ww2 when the previous firefighters college at Saltdean near Brighton set up by The National Fire Service ( N.F.S ) became too small to train the amount of senior fire service officers that were admitted to the college ! This did not include ordinary or lower ranking fire service officers who wished to enhance their fire brigade careers ! The Fire Service Staff College at Dorking was in force from 1949 to 1981 when it was closed permanently with all fire service training for both senior & ranking firefighters being transfered to the 1968 formed Fire Service Technical College situated at Moreton in the Marsh near Gloucestershire. These Fire Service College cap badges are particularly hard to obtain because they were never copied due to crown copyright. Anybody attempting to do so were subject to not only hefty fines but also jail terms & the crown copyright on Home Office badges enforced this issue ! This cap badge being 100% original is in excellent used condition & became obsolete in 1981 !
