Hampshire Fire Brigade & Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service senior officers DID NOT wear an officers wreath cap badge, only the standard bimetal 2 piece cap badge issued to all personel.
When a badge manufacturing comany is chosen by the brigade to manufacture their issued cap badges, a SAMPLE CARD is produced of different Home Office star patterns with varied enamel centres attached, variations in colour, metal used etc. This card contains anywhere between 10 & 20 different variations of the same badge, one card is sent to the brigade for approval & to choose a particular star & centre, The other kept at the manufacturers factory to identify the chosen sample to be mass produced ! Sometimes a card is also kept in the manufacturing workshop to identify the chosen badge. Because metal costs money to waste, no badge manufacturing company would produce any more than 2 / 3 samples of each badge. Once the chosen badge is removed from the sample card, these remaining variations get stored, forgotten about, even chucked away or melted back down. These cap badges are extremely RARE with only one or 2 existing in the world !!
This Mike Trueman Badge Company of Birmingham manufactured Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service Senior Officers 1993 to 2021 cap badge is one such factory sample badge as explained above, Hampshire Fire Brigade or Fire & Rescue Service were never issued these wreath style cap badges & wore just the metal 2 piece fireman's cap badge with senior officer hats.
I am aware he made between 10 & 20 of these wreath style officers badges & only 2 gilt variations. Mike Trueman Badge Company was the 2nd official manufacturer & supplier of cap badges to the brigade. Toye Kenning & Spencer being the other. The cap badge is in excellent condition with both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the cap badge.
