A fantastic opportunity to own a nice piece of London Fire Brigade history. London County Council formed in 1904 changing name from Metropolitan Fire Brigade & lasted until 1965 when changed again to G.L.C ( Greater London Council )London Fire Brigade.
Brass helmets were in use until the mid 1930's with London Fire brigade, beginning to be phased out when the new compressed cork 1st patterns were starting trials 1934 / 35. London ordered 100 & they were cherry red in colour, each numbered with a gold stamp 100 & unbadged. Trialed in East London they were the 1st & in 1936 the the 1st black cork patterns were rolled out across London Fire Brigade with the gold badge & stripy gold high step comb with 8 ridges. Very popular today with collectors, prices for good condition first cork pattern helmets are high.
This nice condition brass L.C.C.L.F.B helmet of the 1904 to 1936 era is in great overall original condition, minor dents expectant with a used condition helmet, its complete with liner & chinstrap, the chinsscales has come apart from some parts of the leather & the strap is broken but complete. Overall a good investment these helmets are creeping up in value & are very popular with worldwide fire helmet collectors being London, last one i sold went to Saudi Arabia & i've been looking for a good replacement to add to my hobby site, which came up last month at auction so here it is.
