The Leicestershire & Rutland Fire Service was formed after the Fire Services Act of 1947 which transferred fire cover to county’s & county borough regional control from the National Fire Service ( NFS 1941 to 1947 ) after ww2 ( 1939 to 1945 ). The Leicestershire & Rutland Fire Service had 15 stations covering 957 square miles & also had a few variations of cap badge including a curved cap badge, fairly unique in the post 1947 era of cap badges!
This cap 100% original cap badge from the Leicestershire & Rutland Fire Service is manufactured by London Badge & Button Company who were the official cap badge suppliers to the fire service in the later part of the services life. The London Badge & Button Company was a manufacturer that started its life in the later part of the 1960’s & this cap badge has the distinct pointed star of the London Badge & Button Company plus fully stamped on the rear of the economy issue home office star with the 2mm enamelled centre secured to the star by welding! The large letters variation as there is also a small letters variation on the market.
The enamel is in perfect condition & overall for a used condition cap badge the badge is a great addition to any fire cap badge collectors cap badge collection.
