Liskeard Fire Brigade, a small Cornish town at the edge of Bodmin Moor was established on 16th January 1862 & lasted until it merged into the National Fire Service during ww2 in 1941. After ww2 Liskeard became one of the newly formed Cornwall County Fire Brigade stations & is now part of Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service.
This is an absolutley Immaculate 100% original condition Liskeard Fire Brigade Senior Officers nickel silver fire helmet with original liner & chinstrap. Displaying the National Fire Brigades Association ( 1918 to 1949 ) senior officers helmet badge which would put the date of this helmet at 1920's / 30's period. Many smaller town & villiage fire brigades of the Victorian & Edwardian periods joined the National Fire Brigades Union or National Fire Brigades Association for better protection & equiprement. Therefore wore N.F.B.A insignia. it is nice to tie this helmet locally to Liskeard & honest condition, has the usual minor service dents & also picture enclosed of original condition found in a deceased estate house clearance locally in Liskeard. An absolutley stunning piece cleaned up & there is a matching example in the Liskeard Museum on display & also in the Public Relations sheet online for the museums attractions. No splits to cone where impact damage in use has occured, a good sign of a well made fire helmet of the period, has the standard dragon motifs either side of the cone, the liner is also extremely nice original condition with minor wear, all bolts are present & original as is the badge which is definately the original badge the helmet was issued with & never been removed.
What a nice fire brigade senior officers helmet for the small Cornish villiage of Liskeard to grace a West Country or generalised collector of British Fire Brigade early brass & nickel helmets...and NOT an Indian cheap COPY lol....( market is full of them ) !
