London as a fire brigade has had many badges since its inception in 1904 after the name change from M.F.B ( Metropolitan Fire Brigade ) to L.C.C L.F.B ( London County Council London Fire Brigade . This particular badge represented another name change when the brigade merged with its surrounding neighbours in 1965 adopting a new name of G.L.C L.F.B ( Greater London Council London Fire Brigade ).
This name change lasted till 1988 when the badge again changed with the new title change of L.F.C.D.A ( London Fire & Civil Defence Authority ). This time the only change in the badge was the addition of 2 ( two ) more crowns above the shield. Varieties exist including fat & thin crowns, chrome & gilt shields!
This version is a used condition “fat crown” variety & sports the slider of J.R Gaunt or Firmin & Son’s to the rear for attachment to a cap, the 2 recognised manufacturers of London Fire Brigade cap badges since 1948 & still used today!
