A very nice condition Melba Ware Pekingese earthenware figure measuring 5 1/2 inches high & 9 1/2 inches long & manufactured by H.A Wain & Sons of Longton in Staffordshire  !

Established in 1937 by Horace Wain at the Melba Works, Longton, they specialised in fancy earthenware figurines  especially animals.  vases, garden ornaments & character figures. Closing the factory during ww2 from 1939 to 1946 & reopened when war was finally over, producing many more varieties of fancy earthenware, branching out to varied animals, dogs & birds of prey in the 1960's when this piece was manufactured.

Run now by his sons Horace Wain Junior & Eric Wain, the company registered Melba Ware Fine Arts Division as a separate company, sadly the company only lasted until 1982 after finacial difficulties & applied for liquidation.

Melba Ware vintage pieces are becoming more desirable the older they get & with the many variations of certain animals the pieces made in the 1960's are of great interest to collectors.
