Merioneth Fire Service was formed in 1948 after the N.F.S ( National Fire Service ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. Merioneth had 8 fire stations covering 660 square miles of area. A very sparsely populated area & the most mountainous part of Wales which has a great part of Snowdonia National Park within it. Also the coastline of Cardigan Bay. Mainly nationalist speaking Welsh people reside in the county & in the 1960's the population of Merionethshire was just over 38,000.
This cap badge is in excellent condition, manufactured by Mike Trueman Badge Company of Birmingham, the enamel centre is attached to the standard issue fully pressed Home Office star, both cap fixing lugs are intact to the rear of the cap badge
