An unusual Middlesex Fire Brigade error cap badge from the post war era, this unusual Middlesex badge has no red enamel on the shield part of the badge! There is no evidence of it being scratched off either crudely or professionally & it has not been damaged in any way. This was a genuine issued badge & is the correct pattern of badge & star used by Middlesex in its short lifespan of 17 years as a county fire brigade. Middlesex was formed in 1948 & was swallowed up by London, Surrey & Buckinghamshire Fire Brigades in 1965 when London became G.L.C L.F.B (Greater London Council, London Fire Brigade). Middlesex ceased to be a recognized as a county after 1965 although it is still widely used in addressed mail!

The badge is a flat backed home office star & the central enamel shield is fixed & the prongs filed smooth at the rear securing the enamel centre to the star, this was correct for Middlesex Cap Badges although the lined star variety with detachable centre, secured by a long thin brass pin were also in use during this period having been ordered from 2 different manufacturers!
An interesting badge from the early post W.W.2 period!
