The German sports badge is the oldest German award still in force today & was first created in 1913. The aim was to promote fitness for young German males in preparation for the armed forces of Imperial Germany.
The award was produced to encourage speed, stamina, strength & endurance in a variety of sports including swimming, running, cycling, jumping & skiing.
In 1933 it became The Nazi D.R.L Sports badge lasting untill 1945, previously early examples had no swastika & post war examples were also de-Nazified, the name also changed with the new Federal German Republic to the D.S.O.B. Sports Badge.
This example is manufactured by Hensler Pforzheim, a prominent manufacturer of German badges & numbered 35269! Although the pin is missing to the rear would make a fine display item for a collector as an original Nazi German award.
