A rare error variation of the standard issued Newcastle & Gateshead Fire Service 1948 o 1974 cap badge which has only 2 windows in the black castle shield portion of the enamel centre. The badge is a very early issued error badge which can be shown by the exposed brass of the rear cap fixing lugs. later 1950's issues were all chrome. The badge is a 2 p[iece badge with the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue Home Office lined star & both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the badge. The badge shows signs of age & wear with small enamel chips in the NEWCASTLE word part of the scroll.
