Newport County Borough Fire Service post world war 2 ( 1939 to 1945 ) was formed in 1947 when the N.F.S ( National Fire Service 1941 to 1947 ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. Newport was a small county borough brigade with just 2 fire stations covering 12 square miles of area.
Merging into Gwent County Fire Service in 1974 the original cap badges from the period are sought after by collectors with not so many issued & many ending up on retirement gift axe boards or plaques.
This cap badge manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham is in excellent condition, the gilt enamel centre fixed to the stanard lined economy issue Home Office star & both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the badge.
