Portsmouth City Fire Brigade post ww2 was formed in 1948 after the N.F.S ( National Fire Service 1941 to 1947 ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. Portsmouth City Fire Brigade had 3 fire stations covering 14 square miles of area, the first issued helmets were British Army ww2 pattern helmets either the standard "Tommy " Brodie steel infantry helmet or the 44 pattern "tutle" helmets with Portsmouth City Fire Brigade transfers on the front. These helmets continued to be worn until the National Plastics fibre helmets were issued in the 1950's. A detacheable liner is fitted with this white station officers helmet, the rubber outer band is damaged but the helmet is original condition with chin strap & overall condition is good.
