Salford City Tramways started life on 17th May 1877 as a horse drawn tram & until electric power arrived in 1901 gradually fasing out the horse drawn trams in 1903.
With the automobile age came buses & although tramway corporations were operating at profits, buses soon became more popular & revenues of the tramways started to fall. To combat this after a disasterous financial year in 1926 the corporation invested more in buses & the bus revenues helped keep the tramway corporations "above water" financial. But it was a steady decline through the 1930's & the first closure was in 1931 until 1946 when they finally ended in favour of buses. The last tram of Salford ran on 31st March 1947 having already changed its name in 1946 to Salford City Transport !
This cap badge is from the mid 1930's when the tramways firm changed its name to Salford Corporation Transport until 1946 & is nickel metal in good condition with the cap fixing slider intact to the rear of the badge
