This 1953 dated Korean War period U.S M1 steel helmet is in good condition. The 60 year old “artifact” is an original Mk 2 1944 pattern M1 example made of pressed handfield manganese steel with the 1944 pattern rear fixed rim, 1943 pattern rectangular swivel chin strap attachments, the more pronounced S shaped curve to the helmet rim & visor front flared, ( later 1960's helmets were smaller ).

The detachable liner dated 1953 & bears the stamp mark ABL 1953 COGER VCNA 1000 061 40 inside, has a 1951 / 53 pattern web interior with leather sweatband, 2 brass rivetts either side of the inside where the 1951 / 3 pattern leather chin strap would be fixed ( has a later 50's / 60's olive drab strap with fixing button & clip buckle

It has been over-painted externally in olive drab, a painted Belgian flag on the side suggests the helmet was impressed possibly into the Belgian Army for a period but could be restored carefully with light paint remover.
