Very nice condition gilded gold button from the Medical Staff Corps formed in 1855.
This button in exceptionally good condition is probably from the 1880’s & bears the makers name Firmin & Sons 153 Strand, London & 13 Conduit St, clearly stamped to the rear.
The Medical Staff Corps was formed in 1855 but only lasted 2 years to 1857, renamed Army Hospital Corps until reverting to its previous name again in 1884. This name continued until its disbandment when the soldiers from the corps joined the officers from The Army Medical Department to form The Royal Army Medical Corps in 1898!
